A Brief Book Notice from Books At a Glance

The final series of sermons James Montgomery Boice preached at the historic Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia were from the book of Revelation. He made it only through chapter 6 and the “sixth seal” of John’s vision before God took him home, and although we may wish he could have concluded the entire Revelation we have here a marvelous glimpse of his pulpit ministry – characterized always by careful exposition, theological awareness, and pastoral application. Boice understands these chapters in a healthy “now and not yet” perspective, and these his final sermons will prove profitable to any pastor or teacher or lay-reader who wants to work through these fascinating chapters. Rich and well-informed. Highly recommended. Phil Ryken is to be thanked for bringing these sermons together for us.

Here is D.A. Carson’s endorsement for the book:

Jim Boice’s final series of sermons at Tenth Presbyterian Church before his untimely death and promotion to glory cover only the first six chapters of the book of Revelation, but they are a marvelous synthesis of exegesis and theology, of doctrine and life. Read this book for your own well-being, to lead yourself into adoration, to hunger and pray for righteousness that springs from the gospel of grace. Then distribute copies to your friends for their well-being, too.
