Justification plays such a key role in the application of redemption in God’s work of salvation. Apart from justification, we have no way to be freed from guilt and condemnation because of our sinful nature and sins we commit. Justification is also the basic religious question: how can we be just with God? This would have been the case even if man had never sinned. The doctrine of justification is the doctrine that sparked the Protestant Reformation. How, then, will we understand this doctrine?
